SignMyCar! is a multimedia documentary about everyday Belgians in the US. I travel throughout the country to live with fellow Belgians for a few days and document their lives with photo documentaries and video interviews. After each visit, participants SignMyCar! The reader - you - can then go online and click on the storytelling car to discover the person behind each signature.
This project explores the struggles and joys of creating a new home in a foreign country through the lives Belgian Immigrants. It talks about finding a new balance between two worlds while remaining oneself. Through my interviews and photo-essays, I hope to build a bridge among cultures to promote multiculturalism, mutual respect and compassion.
The production of SignMyCar! began in April 2015. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2018. Check out the Itinerary and Schedule page to know when SignMyCar! will be in your neighborhood.
The documentary is produced in "rounds". Each season covers a part of the United States. Each season is divided in 3 steps: pre-production, production and post production. A new season does not start until all its steps are completed. The completion of one season usually takes six to twelve months. Check out the expected itinerary and schedule here.
This project is produced through my photography studio, Severine Dehon Photography, LLC. It started as a personal assignment and grew into something much bigger. As of April 2016, three people assist me with SignMyCar!: Alex Hernandez, Connie Hernandez and Petra Van Der Linden. Meet your team.
